Bespoke Clothing Subscription
What means BESPOKE?
Well, back in the days when things were much slower and intentional than they are today, people wore clothing that they made themselves or they had made for them. Made for them was considered a simple luxury and dubbed BESPOKE. In this spirit, since 1998, Maiden Avalon continues to offer handmade slow fashion clothing that you can order from our monthly gallery (Updated at the beginning of each month starting in November 2023) or wear off-the-rack from wherever we may meet on the festival tour loop (see our events page). However, if you really want to take hold of your clothing choices, remake yourself through the garments you wear, and declutter the fast fashion out of your life, then this offering for the BESPOKE line may be for you.
Perhaps you have a CSA subscription and love the relationship you've built with your local farmer, maybe you're even a member of a CSF with a coastal fisherman, or have been looking for a Community Supported Restaurant near you... well! did you know that Maiden Avalon has Community Supported Clothing membership program AKA THE BESPOKE CLOTHING SUBSCRIPTION? It seems that this movement towards self sufficiency, smaller impact choices and building local economic resilience has become a much bigger force than when Maiden Avalon set out to make slow clothing a "THING" back in the 90's. So, we have been doing this a long time! Come wear with us!
Seasonal clothing subscriptions are a wholesome way to become more deeply connected to where your clothing comes from, how it's created, and establishes a rich relationship with a personal seamstress, tailoring your wardrobe with BESPOKE garments. Clothing that will fit, feel good, last for years, and could even become heritage pieces. Showcase yourself in wearable art and feel great while doing it!

What is a CSC? Community Supported Clothing?
,The goal of Community Supported Clothing is to provide to the member a collection of garments that covers all the clothing needs through the seasons for a full year cycle. Becoming a member allows you to send in your favourite clothes to get mended, or copied to remake as well as getting your monthly custom order on the seasonal schedule of offerings. Subscriptions are limited to how much making can be done in a month. If you have a special request, that will go on a separate calendar to be fulfilled in a priority order. All subscriptions are mailed out twice monthly on the makers dates following the full and new moon cycles.
An exploration in a year's necessity of seasonally appropriate clothing was the foundation of this idea. The making of a single personal wardrobe and textile needs within a local fibre shed is the target goal. Considering how long a garment lasts, how often it requires laundering and what colours are preferred by clients, will allow multi use and layering in a specific climate and are variables that make this research project dynamic.
In an assortment of fabrics, colours, textures and processes the garments are interchangeable and layered to bring comfort and simplicity.
All fibres are natural, locally sourced or fair trade certified.
Colours are neutral, earth tones, matched to or dyed with plant extracts creating colour palette harmony with the complete wardrobe.
Styles are taken from simple and ancient patterns that showcase the basic geometry of uncomplicated design.
We use knits, flat weave, felt, hand knit and crochet. Our fabrics are up-cycled, recycled, reclaimed, raw, repurposed, found, and all accessories or notions are recycled or handcrafted.
